QuitamiedoS is the fourth production by the Kulunka Teatro theatre company. Since its foundation, the company has produced two masked plays (ANDRÉ & DORINE and SOLITUDES) and two text-based plays (EDITH PIAF, Taxidermy of a Sparrow and its latest one, QuitamiedoS), performing in over 30 different countries.

Kulunka Teatro has also received numerous prizes and nominations for each of its shows, recently winning the RNE ‘Critical Eye’ Theatre Award and the MAX Best Show Award 2018, for Solitudes.

With QuitamiedoS, the company aims to continue making a firm commitment to contemporary theatre.

SYNOPSIS

QuitamiedoS (which literally translates as ‘crash barrier’) is based on the premise that in the time which transpires from the moment a person dies to the moment their body cools and merges with the ambient temperature, an encounter occurs between them and their guardian angel. The play’s duration matches this interlude exactly, with time being measured in degrees centigrade.

At a curve in a country road, where the crash barrier has been broken as the result of an accident, QuitamiedoS paints a unique, poetic, secularised picture of death, gradually revealing the deceased’s life story, the pieces of which somehow seem at odds with the official version of the accident. The aim is to offer a tragicomic comparison of two lovers–one idealised, the other human–and to reflect upon love and its contradictions.

A highly original (and extremely well-designed and developed) premise with which Kulunka once again explores humanity’s greatest issues from an eminently poetic viewpoint with a surprising veneer of magic and tenderness, while at the same time eschewing solemnities and never for one moment losing its sense of humour

Quitamiedos has it all–originality, meticulous work, attention to detail, surprises and scenic and narrative purity; all the qualities one would expect from an outstanding company such as Kulunka, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

Quitamiedos is a restrained show that nevertheless offers meticulous attention to detail which leaves the audience feeling they have just witnessed a job well done. Without doubt, a suggestive and thought-provoking way of opening the Vitoria International Theatre Festival.'

The performances were outstanding, just as in Kulunka's previous offerings (Solitudes, Taxidermy of a Sparrow, etc.), with Jesús Barranco and Luis Moreno constituting a sound scenic pair.
